Why, Where and Who
Mick Hurst and Ian Priest from the Battle of Evesham Committee will take you through the combatants, what they wore and how they fought. What effect did the massive battle have of the town of Evesham in 1265.
There will be fully armoured knights showing what they wore (down to their underwear) and what the difference was between the well-equipped Royal Army and the mainly Welsh conscripts on the Baron’s side – it will be obvious why the Battle of Evesham was recorded by one chronicler as ‘The Murder of Evesham – for Battle it was none’.
Also, there will be helms to try, swords to hold and maille to put on – immerse yourself in local history that changed international politics and led to the formation of the House of Commons.
Then there are the plans for the future, find out what exciting projects are being developed, not only for the 760th anniversary festival in August, but to leverage history tourism to benefit the whole Vale of Evesham for generations to come.
